Wood carver Jim Miller received his first whittling knife at age
14 from one of his paper route customers. The customer let Jim select
a knife from his Case knife display cabinet in his hardware store
for Jim's Christmas bonus, and forty years later, Jim's still whittling!
Jim started carving in early 2000 after attending a week-long seminar
at Silver Dollar City theme park in Branson, Missouri. It wasn't
long before Jim became a guest carver at Silver Dollar City, working
alongside top carvers from around the world. Today, Jim's time is
split between carving in Branson and teaching carving classes at
the Woodcraft store in Peoria, IL. Jim is also a board member of
the Three Sisters Folk Art School.
Jim has mastered several types of hand carving–chip carving,
carving in the round and relief carving–with styles ranging
from realistic to caricature to primitive folk.
Jim will be demonstrating his carving techniques at the Three Sisters
Folk Art Fest June 21st at Three Sisters Park in Chillicothe, IL.
