Woodcarving
It’s August so let’s start carving Christmas ornaments! Don’t wait until late in the year to start, you won’t get them finished in time. The ornaments you carve can be used for decoration during the Christmas season or throughout the year.
Don’t be intimidated, try something new….or come back to a hobby you once enjoyed.
My teaching style is relaxed and my goal is for you to learn while having fun. For this class I want to make sure that everyone finishes at least one carving during the weekend. I’ll have an assortment of holiday ornament blanks for you to choose from.
I use ornaments to teach you the basic skills of carving and the importance of using sharp tools.
We will be working with very sharp tools so the #1 thing to learn is the safe use of these tools and to ALWAYS wear a Kevlar safety glove.
The blanks that I provide are available for a nominal fee and I will also have some carving tools available to purchase. Please contact me at least a week before class to find out about purchasing the tools you need or, if you plan to bring your own, make sure that you have the needed tools.

About the Teacher:
I worked almost 34 years at Caterpillar in the Peoria and Mossville facilities, retired and started to live life. I took several wood carving classes in Branson, Mo and nearby Silver Dollar City while working at the WoodCraft store in Peoria, Illinois. In 2009 the Peoria WoodCraft store closed it's doors and I found an opportunity in Branson at Peter Engler Designs. If you are in the Peoria area, please stop by Phoenix Rising in Peoria Heights to see my work. Also check out the progress at Three Sister's Folk Art School in Chillicothe, Illinois. We are building a full service folk art school on the grounds of the Three Sisters Park. Stay tuned, I'm living my dream and sometimes you don't know how the dream will end.
